Theological & Leadership Training

The AWF has its roots in the Christian and Missionary Alliance, a movement launched by Dr. Albert Simpson, who saw the importance of sound biblical training for spiritual workers. He established the Missionary Training Institute, which has been called “the forerunner of the Bible College Movement.” Around the globe, wherever churches were planted, the Alliance organized theological and missiological training to  leaders.

Some Alliance institutes started more than 90 years ago:

1883   Missionary Training Institute / Nyack College / Alliance Theological Seminary (History of the Institute)
1907   Toccoa Falls College (History)
1916   The St. Paul Training Home / Crown College (History)
1921   Simpson Bible Institute / Simpson College A.W. Tozer Thyological Seminary (History)

Early seminaries outside of North-America:

1921  Theological Seminary of Temuco (Chile)
1929   Ebenezer Bible Institute (Philippines)

International Commission on Theological Education

The ICTE was established to facilitate collaboration and sharing of experience and ressources of all involved in training the leaders of the future. Representatives of Alliance Theological schools got together during AWF Quadrennial Convocations. In Santiago, Chile (2008), it was decided that the ICTE should meet annually. Therefore follow-up meetings were held in Hong Kong in 2009 and in Calgary, Canada in 2010.

On the agenda of the ICTE are topics like:
- Alliance Identity
- Accreditation Issues in general and especially as related to
- e-Learning programs
- scholarship

Leadership Matters Course

The AWF is an official partener organization of the International Training Alliance (ITA), which has come into being in response to the deep need for Leadership training in the developing world. Several leaders responded to the need, specifically focusing on delivering an interactive course where skills and knowledge are passed on to the participants. It was recognized that while there are many books on the subject of leadership, training is also needed for leaders to reach their full potential. Former AWF president Dr. Roger Lang from Australia represents the AWF in the ITA/LMC. For more information visit the LMC website: www.leadershipmatters.ws
